ARIOCC Chapter 5: The Lion Cat

It was surprising to see that the other party actually kept a cat at home.

Pei Shiyi glanced at him in astonishment. This large bag was filled with various foods and snacks, even including two bags of cat milk powder.

Pei Shiyi paid the bill, picked up the bag given by the shop owner, and waited for Mr. Bureau Chief to finish checking out before pushing the door open to leave.

Bo Jin had so many things that the shop owner needed to use two bags to fit everything.

Both of them were male, and neither were human, so carrying the bags was not an issue. Pei Shiyi confidently left Bo Jin behind, letting him carry the bags by himself.

"Come in."

Pei Shiyi opened the door to the cat café.

The first floor was already cleared out. With Pei Shiyi there, the entire first floor was spotless, and shockingly clean, but completely bare with no place to entertain guests.

The cats were all sleeping upstairs. Pei Shiyi walked upstairs quietly, peeked into the bedroom, and saw four cats sleeping in various positions. Yolk was drowsily squatting at the door. As soon as Pei Shiyi opened the door, Yolk immediately woke up.

Yolk carefully squeezed through the crack in the door. Pei Shiyi gently closed the door and whispered, "You're not sleeping anymore?"

Yolk rubbed against his pant leg, plopped down at Pei Shiyi’s feet, and started grooming himself while saying, "No, Yun Chao will arrive this afternoon."

With his bright eyes, he curiously looked at the non-human bureau chief holding the bags and asked, "Boss, is this your friend?"

Pei Shiyi sorted through the various cat supplies in the bag without looking up and said, "No, a supervisor."

"Sorry," Bo Jin said, one hand in his pocket while placing the bag next to Pei Shiyi, "I'm your guardian. For the next three months, I'll be responsible for helping you adapt to modern society, correcting some of your behaviors, and preventing possible accidents."

Accidents?

The more Pei Shiyi listened, the more he felt that the responsibilities of this "guardian" were similar to those of a parent. He looked at Bo Jin skeptically, took out his phone, and searched for the definition of a guardian.

"A guardian refers to a person who has the responsibility of taking care of the personal, financial, and other legal interests of someone who is either not capable of civil conduct or has limited capacity for civil conduct."

Pei Shiyi: "..."

He now wanted to throw Bo Jin out.

Yolk licked its paw and asked curiously, "From the Bureau?"

"Mm," Pei Shiyi stacked the cans in a straight line, "called..."

He looked up, "What's your name?"

Yolk: "??"

Bo Jin said, "Bo Jin."

Pei Shiyi asked, "The 'bo' as in 'favor one over another'?"

Bo Jin glanced at him, "The 'bo' as in 'frivolous'."

Immediately recalling their first meeting, Pei Shiyi was at a loss for words: "......"

He choked up, missing the chance to retort, and could only think that he would definitely get back at him next time.

Pei Shiyi was not used to doing housework. After a long time, he had only cleaned a few items.

Yolk jumped onto the table. Despite being such a fat cat, his movements were surprisingly light, though his belly rippled with waves of fat: "Boss, let me help you."

Pei Shiyi casually petted his fur and pulled a fish toy from the bag, stuffing it under Yolk’s belly.

"No need, you go play."

Pei Shiyi felt like he was wasting his time: someone like him shouldn’t bother with chores—why was he trying to improve his manual skills?

With a wave of his hand, he put all the miscellaneous cat supplies back where they belonged.

Before he could relax, another bag of items appeared in front of him. He turned around to see Director Bo, who had somehow already scooped Yolk into his arms, one hand resting on Yolk's belly and the other just pulled away from in front of Pei Shiyi.

Obviously, this bag of things wasn't bought for Bo Jin's cat but as a gift for the cat café.

"A meeting gift for the juniors," Bo Jin made a gesture of invitation, his face still expressionless, "Please accept it on their behalf."

Oh, so capable, yet still wants to play with someone else's cat?

Pei Shiyi shook the bag, putting everything where it belonged, feeling completely at ease. He even smiled slightly at Bo Jin and said, "Then I'll thank you on behalf of my cat."

He deliberately emphasized the words "my cat" and politely said to Yolk, "Treat our guest well."

Bo Jin: "......"

Since he was holding Pei Shiyi’s cat, Bo Jin couldn’t immediately retort.

......

In the afternoon, near sunset, the lion cat Yun Chao finally arrived.

But she didn’t come alone—she brought a surprise for Pei Shiyi: she had picked up another cat.

As Yolk had said, Miss Yun Chao was a purebred lion cat, with apricot eyes and odd eyes—one yellow and one blue, also known as gold and silver eyes. She was completely white without a single speck of color, as pristine as freshly fallen snow, with pink ears and a luxurious mane around her neck that looked incredibly soft.

When she walked in, the sunlight outlined her fluffy silhouette. She sat gracefully in front of Pei Shiyi, her large fluffy tail neatly circled around her front paws, and nodded at him.

Elegant and dignified, her pure white long fur added to her regal aura—she was undoubtedly the most beautiful among her kind.

Pei Shiyi smiled in return.

But...

He glanced at the furball behind Yun Chao, slightly surprised that she wasn’t alone.

Behind the large white furball was another furball, huddled behind Yun Chao, not daring to show its head, with only two dark ears peeking out from behind her, occasionally twitching.

Yun Chao sat at the door, looking up at Pei Shiyi.

This was at the cat café’s entrance, and with people coming and going on the street, she couldn’t speak.

Pei Shiyi stepped aside to make way for the two cats, "Please come in."

Yun Chao meowed softly, leading the cat stuck to her into the café.

As the two furballs passed by Pei Shiyi, he finally noticed that the one behind Yun Chao was a bicolor Ragdoll. The Ragdoll seemed very scared of strangers, its tail hanging down and pressed tightly against Yun Chao’s body, its ocean-blue eyes cautiously watching Pei Shiyi.

Why is this Ragdoll so skinny? Almost out of shape.

The Ragdoll, noticing Pei Shiyi's gaze, lowered its head even more carefully, even averting its eyes to avoid looking at him.

Pei Shiyi considerately looked away, bent down to pet Yun Chao's ears, and said, "You've worked hard. Go upstairs and rest for a while, Yolk is up there too."

Yun Chao rubbed against his hand, then turned to meow at the Ragdoll, leading both cats upstairs.

Pei Shiyi followed them up.

Yun Chao probably didn’t have any issues adapting, but the Ragdoll she brought back might be scared by the other cats. The skinny little Ragdoll had a faint aura of a demon, obviously having gained intelligence by chance, knowing nothing, a little demon child.

There was still that non-official bureau chief upstairs. What if he bullied his little cat?

What? The Ragdoll wasn’t his cat yet?

It didn’t matter. Once it was in his territory, it was his.

Pei Shiyi followed them upstairs.

On the second floor.

The two orange cats, who had taken a nap, were already up and circling the new Ragdoll.

This Ragdoll was too thin, though still relatively clean. It was a bicolor Ragdoll with sharp ears, seemingly having wandered outside for a long time, with some patches of fur missing, revealing scratch marks from other stray cats. Once separated from Yun Chao, it cowered on the floor.

Yolk was nearly twenty pounds, twice the size of the Ragdoll, with his belly wobbling with every step. There was no need to mention the giant orange cat that could crush a bed—the copper-coin leopard cat was also a large and particularly strong breed. Next to the yet-to-grow Ragdoll, its presence was quite overwhelming.

Their size clearly made the Ragdoll uneasy, and it curled up into a ball, not even daring to hiss.

Yolk wanted to lick it kindly, but his massive orange body made him look like a bully, scaring the Ragdoll into turning its face away, only to face the copper-coin cat.

Tong Qian considered himself handsome and dashing, the cat version of Pan An. He gave the ragdoll cat a smile he thought was friendly and walked over gracefully.

"Don't be afraid, meow—"

Unfortunately, the little ragdoll cat had only just become a spirit and couldn't understand Tong Qian's attempt at a human-like smile. All she saw were his sharp teeth.

Oh no, she was going to be eaten.

The ragdoll cat closed her eyes, despairingly dropped to the ground, and began to plead in a small voice.

Tong Qian: "..."

Facing Yolk's accusing gaze, he stammered, "I didn't, I didn't threaten her. I just thought she was pretty..." He just wanted to show some gentlemanly manners. After all, she was the only soft and cute little sister in their cat café.

Yolk was utterly disdainful: "Pervert."

As the newest cat, Yun Chao wasn't the least bit shy. She jumped onto a table upstairs, lay down lazily, and watched the two silly cats sniffing the ragdoll cat, her big tail gently patting the table.

Bo Jin didn't interfere with them but leaned against the table, focusing on Yun Chao. Two tortoiseshell kittens sat on his shoulders, one on the left and one on the right. Bo Jin let them stay there, calmly acting as a cat tree for them.

When Pei Shiyi came upstairs, he happened to see this scene.

The two little tortoiseshell kittens turned their heads to look at the stairs when they heard a noise, their expressions identical: "Meow?"

Pei Shiyi's smile froze for two seconds when he saw the 1.8-meter-tall cat tree.

The little tortoiseshell kittens wouldn't let him go. Sitting on Bo Jin's shoulder, they alternately pawed at each other, eagerly meowing at Pei Shiyi.

These little ones had been fed milk by Pei Shiyi for two days, so they saw him as affectionately as they would see a bottle.

Bo Jin glanced back at him, picked up one of the tortoiseshell kittens, and handed it to Pei Shiyi.

Little Tortoiseshell: "Meow—"

Pei Shiyi couldn't help but smile as he took the little tortoiseshell kitten.

Bo Jin sent away one clingy kitten, then picked up the other from his right shoulder, gently stroking its back while his gaze fell on the three cats on the carpet.

With such good sunlight, it was best to find a soft spot and take a nap.

Bo Jin looked at the sofa beside him, thinking it would be nice to lie there for a while.

Pei Shiyi, holding the little tortoiseshell kitten, bent down and greeted Yun Chao with a smile: "Hello, Yun Chao, I am Pei Shiyi."

Yun Chao stood up, her tail curling gracefully in front of her. She extended her front paw with a dignified air and said, "Hello, I am a Lion Cat named Yun Chao. I received a message from Yolk earlier, and I heard you are willing to teach cultivation. May I discuss cultivation with you after work?"

Yun Chao was evidently a very clean cat. Despite her long journey, she remained impeccably groomed, with no dust on her pink paw pads.

Pei Shiyi slightly bent down and gently shook Miss Yun Chao's front paw: "Of course."

Though this rare creature had lived in the mountains for who knows how long, she moved with an elegant grace that rivaled any so-called "gentleman."

Bo Jin lightly pinched the little tortoiseshell kitten's paw and thought: She really is related to Long Que; with a flick of her fur, she can put on a display as beautiful as a phoenix spreading its feathers.
